Dwayne Wade is dating Star Jones?!?!

Holy shit, this dude just can't stop takin L's can he? According to new reports, D-Wade, AKA the new Penny Hardaway (and not in a good way, that dude used to have ill ass commercials back in the day too, til of course he fell the fuck off), is running faster down that slippery slope and dating It That is Known as Star. Wonder if he had to bump Chuck out of his top 5.

A dude has one good year and everyone wants to crown his ass. Then, of course, they crack under the pressure of being compared to Kobe and quit after their team earns the shittiest record in the league (while playing in the JV East by the way). That's what separates the men from the boys I guess. From The Flash to The Flash in the Pan.

Enjoy the abyss and tell Damon Stoudamire I said what's up.

happy fuck the earth day!!!

In Appreciation of "The Badass" pt. 1

I've always idolized "badasses." To me, though, a badass is any outsider who has a problem with authority and stands as a symbol for rebellion. Not douchebags like Vin Deisel. Sorry XXX, but being able to do shit like blow up a helicopter with a 9 MM or chug 10 Jagerbombs in the span of a commercial break looks cool on screen and all, but leave the task of encapsulating the true essence of cool to guys like Jimmy Dean, Miles Davis, and Peter Lawford.

So yea, in that vein, Marlon Brando, Joey Ramone, and Che Guevara share something: they're all pretty badass. So yea, if your not dead, then you're probably not a badass. I just think that it's high time their breed is acknowledged and appreciated before their extinct. When in doubt, these true men of men could always be depended upon as blueprints for how to rock the fucking shit; unfortunately, though, their going the way of the Wolly Mammoth and Zima, rapidly disappearing off the face of Mother Earth herself, and instead being replaced by cheap knock-offs like Shia LeBouef and the guy from "Step Up." Fucking boo.

So before its too too late, here's to you, Dean Martin, Richard Hell, and Jack Johnson (the boxer, not the shitty singer). Without guys like you, noone would know how to be cool. Ya dig?!

Robert Rodriguez came to my school today!!!

So today I was lucky enough to see Robert Rodriguez speak. He's a graduate from UT with a major in RTF (like me!), and he came today to talk to a bunch of us about his life and answer questions.

The main themes of what he said were "shoot for the stars, because if you miss you'll land on the clouds," and don't give up your dreams, because most people do anyways, so it's not that far fetched for you to succeed. He also talked about how a lot of what he's done in film has come from his idea that you should use whatever tools you have to their full potential. Just be creative and have an imagination.

Other than that, he talked a lot about the technical aspects of filmmaking. And how the first time he met George Lucas was very "Wizard of Oz"-ish. Shooting on digital is the future. Life goes by fast. George Clooney's a cool guy. Make your own movies. Oliver Stone is kind of hard-headed. Angelina Jolie's kid thinks he's Shark Boy. School sucks. His next project is going to be called Shorts. He described it as "Pulp Fiction" for kids. It's a bunch of short films that are intertwined and told out of order. Cool. He said he likes "empowering" kids.

He's also inspired me to get a day planner. A real one. Like, paper and pen.

Here's his short film Bedhead that won a lot of awards and sort of sparked his career.

"The Strangers" trailer

I'm not a big fan of horror movies at all, but this one actually looks pretty good. PS If my roomates are reading this, I finally found "The Exorcist" on DVD and were watching that shit this weekend. Remind me!

new al green!

For his new album Lay it Down,(May 27th) legendary soul singer Al Green hooked up with The Roots' drummer ?uestlove. You can hear 2 tracks off the album here. They also recruited the Dap Kings, known for their work with Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson.

From the sounds of things, this album should be amazing. I love old 60's/70's soul, and it has always bothered me that no contemporary artists have ever strived to recreate that sort of classic sound. Instead, it seems like most artist are concerned with sounding like whatever bullshit is in rotation on the top 40. With his new album, it looks as if Al Green and ?uest have actually been able to recapture some of that old school mojo. I can't wait!!!

"the wackness" trailer

how can you not love the title?

ghandi + an olsen twin + NY in the early 90's + the hot chick from "Juno" = good ass movie.

it's a free country

"son of rambow" trailer!

Any movie with Bowie in the trailer has to be good, right?

hank on joba: "only and idioit wouldn't start him"

According to The NY Times, Hank Steinbrenner can't keep his mouth shut, and that's awesome. He says that he and Joba both want the 22 year old in the starting rotation. Hank and the Evil Empire are shitting over the 10-10 start, and now that A-Rod's hurt, we're fucked. I totally support the idea of no more dicking around and making Joba a starter, but then what does that do to our middle relief? Only time will tell this sordid saga!
